A Daily Religion Part II
We must be willing to bear our cross for Christ daily. If we truly wish and desire to follow Jesus, then we must deny ourselves and take up our cross daily. We can’t be one way one day and another the next. If we have the heart that Christ to have us to have then we will willingly crucify self and not want to not give in to sin. Sin is a daily battle, satan isn’t going to take a day off. Any opportunity that he has to creep in and sow doubt, he will take advantage of. It isn’t always going to be easy. We may lose family, friends, neighbors but what we gain is a life of eternity with the Father if we remain the course and faithful to death. Luke records Jesus as saying, “And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:27). We must be willing to truly trust God and His ways and that of our own flesh and desires. That no matter the teaching or instruction of Christ that I will follow. That also realizing again that the path will be difficult, but the reward and destination will be heaven and everlasting life with the Father and Jesus at His right hand.
We must care about the Church. The church should feel like a family, not a group of people that you see once a week in order to accomplish an item on a checklist. We call each other brother and sister and should genuinely mean it from the heart. If you are my brother and sister then I am going to care about your physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing every single day and not just on Sunday. I should feel a loss when we aren’t together. I am going to be invested in the decisions that are made, not because of how they may benefit me, but in how it will be benefit us all in serving our God. Jesus calls the church His bride and we should love it as such. We shouldn’t want to see or hear of harm to her or any part of her. I should be diligently looking out for those who wish to do harm and protect her at all costs. I should care about the church more than once a week, it must be daily.
I should care about and be doing my part on the growth of the Church daily. I need to be telling people about Jesus at every opportunity. I need to be planting or watering the seeds of those outside the body. Jesus issued to us what we call the great commission, am I truly holding up my end? No, I am not going to convert every single person I see or talk to, I hope to, but I should be proclaiming the Lord’s name and His salvation to all. We shouldn’t get discouraged but realize that it is God gives the increase and that if they reject what we are telling them, that it isn’t us they are rejecting but Him. Continue to stay the course, preach the word in season and out of season and God will take care of the rest. Evangelizing the lost isn’t a one-day week job, it is a task that we should be fulfilling every day. I should want to see the church grow because then that means more have turned to Him and have been grafted into the vine.
