A Daily Religion Part I
A Daily Religion Part I
As we read through the New Testament it quickly becomes apparent that there are more things required and asked of us daily than are weekly. We come together on the first day of the week to partake of the Lord’s Supper as told in Acts 20:7 and in 1st Corinthians 16:2 Paul writes that we are to lay something aside to give back to the Lord a portion of that which we have prospered. But they are still many more things as we read for us to do on a daily basis. The word daily is mentioned roughly 62 times in the New Testament, and I want to look at a few of them together.
The first is we should be searching the scripture daily. We read of the Bereans in Acts 17:11 and their daily search to ensure that what they were hearing and doing were in accordance with God’s word. We must be studying the scripture so that we are able to rightly divide the word as God have us and not as we would want it to. We want to ensure what we are teaching to those inside and outside the body of Christ is true and accurate to His will and not be one to lead others astray or down the path. Paul told Timothy to give attention to reading in 1st Timothy 4:13. It is a way that we can commune with God, why would you want to limit or deny yourself of it? If we want to truly know God and what He would want for and from us then we need to go to His words, His statutes. Using the excuse well Buddy said this will not save you from eternal damnation, but reading and following the words of God will.
Another way that we can directly commune with God is prayer. “Be merciful to me, O Lord, For I cry to You all day long.” (Psalm 86:3). We have been given the opportunity to approach God’s throne and to lay our cares and concerns at His feet, why would you not want to on a daily basis? Paul writes in 1st Thessalonians 5:16-18; “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Jesus suffered and endured life just as we do and can sympathize with us. Prayer will help guard our hearts and minds from failing us through Jesus. In every situation that was difficult we see Jesus going to the Father in prayer, shouldn’t we be doing the same? At the very least prayer should be one of the first and last things we do to help us ensure that we are focused on those things that matter. Life can get busy and hectic but this time with the Father can help calm the chaos and noise and center our thoughts and heart to those things that are in accordance with His will.
We should be exhorting and encouraging each other daily. We all different things going on our day to day lives that can distract us from God. The world around us can seem to be nothing but evil and ugliness. But the kind words of encouragement or just simply to check one another can work wonders. We all will have difficulty and struggle, but the love of a brother or sister can help remind us that we aren’t alone and that His will is and will always be victorious. His way is the only way to salvation and that all the struggles and difficulties will pass. That if we maintain the course and endure faithfully to the end that all His promises will be achieved. That the hope and promise of heaven can be obtained.
