What will You Choose This Day?

What Will You Choose This Day?

God created us as creatures of choice. We have free will in the decisions that we make on a daily basis. Joshua sums this up by saying “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15). Every day we must choose who will serve.

We must choose whether we will be servants of sin or righteousness. Paul wrote “But God be thanked that though you were slaves (servants) of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from son, you became slaves of righteousness.’ (Romans 6:17-18) He would write to the churches of Galatia that we will produce 2 things: either the works of the flesh or the fruits of Spirit. We must make a conscience effort to ensure that we are producing that which is pleasing to God. We shouldn’t want to be servants of sin once we have adorned the doctrine of Christ. Which have you chosen this day?

Jesus told us that there are 2 ways that we can choose to walk in, either the broad or narrow way. “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14). This should be a sober reminder when we read that there are few who find it. The gate we choose to walk in will ultimately determine our place in eternity. The narrow gate is going to be difficult at times, but it is the only gate that we should be striving for. It is the gate that will lead us to eternity with the Father and the Son. Each and every single day we must make the choice of which gate I am walking in.

Have you chosen to build on a rock or on sand? “Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24-27). Are we building faith on Christ by listening to His teachings and then applying them daily. Are we ensuring that our foundation to Him is solid and will not crack or break when the storms of life come beating against us? Or is a foundation one that when the storms come, we buckle and fall away from Him. Have you made the choice to be foolish or to be wise?

In Matthew 25:46 Jesus said, “And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Make no mistake brothers and sisters we all will spend eternity in one of two places: either eternal life or everlasting punishment. There is no in between and there is hope of changing the outcome once we have been judged. Jesus came to give us eternal life and died on the cross to ensure that we could have it. Why waste that gift? Why not heed His words and teachings? There are no redo’s or do over’s, but everyday is a day to make the right choice. Every day that you wake up is chance to make the choice to obey and follow Him. What will your decision be? Will you choose everlasting punishment or eternal life?
